Heading to Blue Mountain this March Break? Here are 17 amazing activities that will keep everyone smiling and having a great time!
Outdoor March Break Activities at Blue Mountain
Blue Mountain Resort and the surrounding area is primarily known for its outdoor activities. Here are ten of our favourites!
Ski and Snowboard
Skiing and snowboarding are the #1 attraction at Blue Mountain, and something everyone visiting needs to experience! The mountain is the best resort in Ontario, with lots of different runs, areas, and terrain parks for every level of skier and snowboarder. Thanks to Blue Mountain’s extensive lighting system, you can be on the hill anytime between 9am and 9pm. Plus, many shops can help you with rental equipment in case you don’t have your own!
Be sure to purchase your lift tickets before heading to the lifts. If you still need to sort out lodging, you can check Blue Mountain’s options to see what’s available!
Snow School
Blue Mountain’s snow school lessons are a fantastic way to quickly improve your ski or snowboard skills. Their online booking system makes it easy to choose your date and lesson type in advance, providing tons of options like group lessons or private lessons, age groups (2-5, 4-6,13+, all ages, etc.), lesson length (60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes), and more!
Whether you want to improve your skills, get your kids more comfortable on the hill, or have a fun family day together, there’s a snow school option for you!
Ski Touring
Blue Mountain is known for skiing down its hills, but what about skiing to the top?! Surprisingly, it’s possible, thanks to Blue Mountain’s newly introduced ski touring activity! This allows you to ski to the top of the mountain by adding skins (a carpet-like strip that goes under your ski and provides traction when climbing). Once you reach the top, remove the skins and ski back down!
It’s a fun, rewarding, and, to be fair, exhausting way to experience skiing at Blue Mountain! You can visit Blue’s ski touring page to learn more about ticket prices, hours, and access.
Fat Biking
We’re leaving the skis behind and grabbing our bikes now! If you didn’t know, bikes can be ridden in the winter, too, with the help of extra wide tires that let you stay on top of the loose and soft snow. These bikes are called fat bikes and provide a super fun and unique winter adventure!
All you need to do is wear your everyday ski or snowboarding clothes (jacket, snow pants, hat, gloves), put on some winter boots, rent a fat bike from Blue, and get out on the trails!
Cross Country Skiing
Roughly 20 minutes south of Blue Mountain is Highland Nordic and some of Ontario’s best cross country skiing! This is a great way to slow down the pace, immersing yourself in nature while taking in the natural beauty of the Niagara Escarpment and the amazing views of Georgian Bay!
Trail passes are required, which will give you access to the 35+ km of trails. A cafe, pro shop, and rentals are also available on the property, providing a terrific outdoor adventuring destination!
Hike N Tube
Blue Mountain’s Hike N Tube is a fun and easy activity for the entire family! It’s a great way to get outside and on the hill without committing to purchasing lift tickets or bringing/renting ski or snowboard equipment. All you need is your basic winter clothes!
Their easy-to-use page lets you search dates beforehand so you can ensure there is availability during your visit! Whether going for your kids or the whole family, tubing is a great introduction to Blue Mountain’s outdoor activities!
Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster
We’re switching things up now and jumping on Blue Mountain’s ridge runner mountain coaster! This attraction stretches 1km through the forest between Blue Mountain’s ski runs, topping out at a fast but not too fast speed of 42 km/h! Like tubing, it’s another fun and unique experience to Blue Mountain that is perfect for all ages and requires nothing more than your regular winter clothes!
You can visit the mountain coaster’s page for ticket prices, opening hours, and other information!
Snowshoeing
Like cross country skiing, snowshoeing is another incredible way to immerse yourself in the outdoors during the winter! It’s low-risk, self-paced, and great for both solo adventures or big group missions. Even better, there are a ton of different areas you can go to!
Blue Mountain offers snowshoeing within the resort, Highland Nordic offers 7 km of snowshoe trails alongside their cross country skiing, and the scenic caves next to Blue Mountain also offer 12+ km of snowshoe trails. So, take your pick and get out there!
Woodview Mountaintop Skating
Blue Mountain’s Woodview Mountaintop Skating is one of their coolest activities and something you definitely don’t want to miss! The twisting trail winds over 1.1 km through the woods along the top of the resort, providing a magical winter wonderland experience.
Tickets are required, and you can rent skates if needed ($10 + HST for a two-hour rental this winter!).
Scenic Caves Nature Adventures
The scenic caves nature adventures right next to Blue Mountain Resort provide a playground of different winter activities amongst their 370 acres of pristine Niagara Escarpment land. You can partake in everything from cross country skiing and snowshoeing to visiting their famous suspension bridge (which is Southern Ontario’s longest suspension footbridge!) or their children’s adventure playground.
Tickets are required to enter but are only available on-site on a first-come, first-serve basis. So, please arrive early to secure access to their many adventures!
Indoor March Break Activities at Blue Mountain
In addition to Blue Mountain’s many incredible outdoor activities are a nice variety of indoor activities perfect for relaxing, keeping warm, and enjoying time with friends and family. Here are seven of our favourites!
Tennis
Blue Mountain’s Monterra Tennis facilities provide a state-of-the-art indoor tennis experience perfect for those that want to get on the court and have a good time! In addition to hourly rentals, Blue Mountain also provides private, semi-private, and group lesson options for those who want to improve their game.
Whether looking for a fun hour on the court to play with the family or a high-intensity hour dedicated to improving your skills, Blue Mountain’s Monterra Tennis is an excellent activity for any tennis lover. You can call 705-445-0231 ext. 52360 to arrange your court rental or lesson!
Plunge! Aquatic Centre
It’s no secret that kids love water parks, which is why Blue Mountain’s Plunge! Aquatic Centre is a popular destination for those looking to spend a day indoors. Complete with a rope swing, water slide, basketball nets, splash pad, indoor and outdoor pools, and hot tubs, Plunge! provides a nice escape from the cold, fulfilling your kid’s water park fix while leaving you well-rested for your next big day outside!
Tickets are required to access the centre and can be purchased at the front desk.
Iwa Spa
Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing – all of it is hard on the body and certainly adds some wear and tear after a few days. Luckily, Blue Mountain has a few great spa options, one of which is Iwa Spa!
Located in the heart of Blue Mountain’s village, Iwa Spa offers a variety of great spa options for everything from a quick 1-hour massage (perfect for those 90-minute snow school lessons your kids are in) to many multi-hour packages that can quickly fill an entire day. You can visit their website to learn more about their services and book your day!
Scandinave Spa
Perhaps Blue Mountain’s most well-known spa, Scandinave Spa is the go-to retreat for those wanting the ultimate day of tranquillity and relaxation. Spread across 25 acres of natural forest, the spa blends the lines between indoors and outdoors, offering a carefully planned layout of indoor and outdoor spa options that guide visitors through their thermal spa experience. This includes everything from multiple sauna options to cold plunge pools and heated hammocks.
The spa is popular, so it is highly recommended that you book your reservations early.
Kalola Spa
Kalola Spa, like Iwa Spa, is also located directly in Blue Mountain Village! Again, this provides great accessibility and allows for some quick escapes while the kids are busy with other activities. You can choose from a variety of options, including massage treatments, facial treatments, and hand and foot treatments!
The spa recommends pre-booking, which you can do by emailing info@kalola.ca or calling the spa at 705-443-5808.
Wine Tasting
Known for their cold climate wines, Georgian Hills Vineyards is a no-brainer for wine lovers looking for a unique tasting experience, even if the weather is below freezing and there’s snow on the ground!
The vineyard offers an indoor tasting bar in addition to its full sit-down experience, complete with wine, cider, and a selection of food. There’s also an outdoor fire pit, perfect for cozying up to while you take in the rustic vineyard surroundings.
1858 Caesar Bar
Last up on our list, and continuing with the alcohol theme, is Collingwood’s 1858 Caesar Bar! This one-of-a-kind bar offers more than 50 signature Caesars in addition to their build-your-own Caesar options, which amount to thousands of different variations.
It’s different, memorable, and feels like a uniquely Canadian experience that pairs perfectly with a week-long March break trip!
