Conveniently located in the centre of Sudbury, Ontario, Adanac Ski Hill is a small but accessible ski area perfect for those looking to develop their skills and become better skiers before venturing to larger resorts.
Here is everything you need to know to ensure your first visit is a success!
When is Adanac Ski Hill Open?
This is a good place to start, as Adanac Ski Hill does not have the larger ski resorts’ typical 7-day-a-week operating hours.
For the 2022/2023 season, Adanac is only open Wednesday through Sunday and does not operate on Monday or Tuesday.
Here are the operating hours for Wednesday through Sunday, including both day and night skiing:
- Wednesday
- Day = 10am – 4pm
- Night = 6pm – 9:30pm
- Thursday
- Day = 10am – 4pm
- Night = 6pm – 9:30pm
- Friday
- Day = 10am – 4pm
- Night = 6pm – 9:30pm
- Saturday
- Day = 9am – 4pm
- Night = Closed
- Sunday
- Day = 9am – 4pm
- Night = Closed
Please note that, like all ski hills, operating hours are weather dependent. So, check conditions, the number of runs open, and the last updated date/time to ensure the hill is open before heading out.
The hill can also become quite busy, especially Friday night and during the weekend. So, if you can, try to visit during the day on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to enjoy a short lift line and empty runs!
How Do You Get to Adanac Ski Hill?
As mentioned, Adanac Ski Hill is conveniently located in the heart of Sudbury, making it easily accessible for those living in the Greater Sudbury Area. Parking spaces are available for anyone arriving by car. Still, the lot is known to fill up quickly, so arrive early to ensure you find a space!
If you don’t have access to a vehicle, your next best bet is transit. While Sudbury’s bus system won’t drop you off directly at the hill, some stations are a 15-20 minute walk from the hill (not ideal, especially while carrying equipment, but better than not going at all).
The closest stops include Westmount (a 16-minute walk), Arthur (a 20-minute walk), and Hawthorne (a 22-minute walk). To plan your specific trip, visit GOVA’s Trip Planner.
And, of course, you always have taxi services like Paul’s Taxi (705-691-5387) or Aaron Taxi if you are okay with paying a bit more to get there.
How Much Do Lift Tickets Cost?

How Do You Purchase Lift Tickets?
The easiest way to purchase lift tickets is by going to the ticket window at the ski hill (cash, credit, and debit are accepted). That said, availability isn’t guaranteed, and tickets may be sold out when you arrive.
You can avoid this issue by purchasing day pass cards in advance via Adanac’s online portal or by calling 311. However, you must have an account with the City of Greater Sudbury to complete your purchase, so be prepared to create that if you don’t already have one.
Season passes are also available and can be purchased via Adanac’s online portal or by calling 311. Again, an account is required to complete your purchase.
What is the Ski Hill Like?
Adanac Ski Hill is best suited for beginner skiers, with a dedicated beginner area, magic carpet lift, and longer “Easy Rider” beginner run being all purpose-built for those learning to ski.
There are also three intermediate runs and one advanced run to choose from; however, with a limited vertical of 240′, most intermediate or advanced skiers will not find these runs challenging enough. Instead, these more advanced runs are best suited for beginners looking to progress and practice their skills on slightly steeper terrain once they feel confident on the greens.
Aside from the magic carpet in the beginner area, all runs are accessed by a newly installed Doplymayer quad chairlift, a welcome upgrade for the increasingly busy hill. Runs are also groomed daily, keeping the hill in great condition, providing nice corduroy for the first few hours of the day, and offering consistent conditions for beginner skiers to learn on.
Finally, nicely situated at the bottom of the hill is Adanac’s 2,400 square foot chalet, complete with a cafeteria serving hot food and warm drinks for those cold winter days.
So, is Adanac Ski Hill ideal for intermediate or advanced skiers looking for a day on the hills? No, you’d be better off visiting the somewhat close Antoine Mountain or one of Ontario’s other top ski hills.
But, if you’re a beginner skier living in Northern Ontario or the Greater Sudbury Area who wants to improve their skills, then Adanac is a great ski hill for you!
Live closer to North Bay? Consider visiting Laurentian Ski Hill, another family-friendly hill great for beginners! If you live closer to Thunder Bay, Loch Lomond is the best ski hill for you!
